Article – Who Are You?

Do you ever feel as a Mom you don’t know who you are anymore? In any given day I’m a therapist, coach, wife, Mom, chauffer, calming hormonal teenagers or riding the hormone roller coaster with them, baseball or soccer Mom, marching band Mom, Sunday school teacher, and I’m just getting started. Somewhere in all of that is Kimberly and truthfully there are days when I’m not even sure who she is. Does anyone recognize that feeling? Something happens after you have children you begin to have multiple personality disorder (just kidding). You are so many things to so many people. Do you know what gets lost in all of this? The fact that I am a child of God and that is my most important role.

Listen to John 1:12-13, “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” In Galatians 4:5 it says we are adopted and that we can cry in the Spirit Abba! Father! Abba is an endearing term for God and can often be translated to Daddy. When Jesus was weeping in the Garden of Gethsemane before he was to be crucified he cried out, “Abba, Father!” Daddy, please take this cup from me if it be your will.

I don’t know about you but there are many days where I desperately need my Abba, Father. He promises that he will give us good gifts since we are His children. Listen to Matthew 7:11, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” God is waiting for us to come to Him to ask Him for help. He wants us to remember that our chief role above all others is that we are His children and He lives in us through the Holy Spirit. Yet, often we forget about that role.

As His children we can come to him with all our need, hurts, and wants. We come to Him with our praise for all He has graciously and mercifully done for us. We can come to Him for rest and for wisdom. God can give us the strength for all the trials we are going through.

Dear sisters in Christ we forget whose we are and who we are. We are daughters of the King and we are very valuable. Our supreme goal in life is to glorify Him in all we do. So, while I’m being a chauffeur, doing the millionth load of laundry, working in my office, listening to my husband, and again the list is endless I can do all those tasks for God’s glory and as His child.

Can I challenge us today to start living like children of God, adopted princesses in the kingdom of God? We need to stop living like peasants but as royalty. Our Abba Father is waiting and watching ready to guide us. Can we allow him to control every area of our lives so His light shines brightly through us? May people see God when they look at us.

Final Thoughts

So often our days are busy with many tasks. Train yourself to learn how to take “mini-vacations” in your day. What is a mini-vacation? A time to daydream, breathe, take a little nap, pray or anything that might rejuvenate you. Even Jesus took time away to rest and spend time with His Father.

Till next time,
