Powerful. Do you ever pretend you are a superhero? Do you ever wish you could do things you can’t do physically? Did you know that God and Jesus are the original superheroes? God is all powerful and can do anything. God was able to make the Red Sea stand straight up in the air so the Israelites walked on dry land. Jesus was raised from the dead and also raised Lazarus from the dead. Jesus was able to feed 5,000 people or more with just two loaves and five fish. So, God is powerful, more powerful than anyone or anything.

“And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey him!” Mark 4:41 NKJV.

Promise Keeper. God always keep his promises. Have you ever had someone promise to do something with you or for you and then break their promise? I think we all have and that can make us sad. God told the Israelites when he made a covenant (strong promise) with them that He would keep His side of the promise and their side of the promise as well. So, when God promises to love us and never leave us alone, he means it. Also, when God promises that people who do not accept Jesus as the only way to God will not spend time in heaven with Him, God means that as well. We can count on God to keep His word. God’s Word is His Bible and the Bible contains God’s promises to us.

“For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 ESV.

Patient. Have you ever had to wait for something for a long time before you got it? Maybe it was a special vacation with your family that you thought would never come. Sometimes, it is waiting to open presents at Christmas. It is hard to be patient and wait on things. Yet, God is patient with us even when we disappoint Him or do not follow His word. God waits for us to talk with Him and spend time with Him. He doesn’t “make” us spend time with Him. He wants us to spend time with Him. Sometimes we pray to God and it doesn’t seem like He answers our prayer. God doesn’t always answer our prayers when we want Him to. Sometimes, we have to be patient and wait on God. God knows what He is doing and what is best for us.

“Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus.” Romans 15:5 NKJV.

Preschool tip:
You know it is really hard when Mom or Dad tells us to wait a minute. We want everything right now. Practice one time this week being patient. When your parents ask you to wait say, “Yes, I can.” It will be hard, but you can do it. (Parents you may want to set an egg timer, be sure you answer their question when the time is up.)

School-age tip:
It is really hard for parents and sometimes children to keep your promises. If your parents ask you this week to clean up your room or empty the trash, keep your promise and do what they have asked. Make sure your parents don’t have to ask you more than one time. Practice being a promise keeper at home and school.
